150th Anniversary Service

The celebration at Chatham Memorial Synagogue of The 150th Anniversary of the Laying of the foundation stone held yesterday was deemed a success by the Jewish community and guests alike. It was a great pleasure to welcome the Lord Lieutenant & Viscountess De L'Isle the Deputy Mayor & Mayoress of Medway and Local MP Kelly Tolhurst as well as many multicultural guests. [if !supportLineBreakNewLine] [endif]Presentations were made to the distinguished guests by 9year old Sarea Phillips and Olivia Weiner and Samuel Halpern Matthews both aged 10.

The Civic Service was conducted by the Minister for small Jewish communities Rev Malcolm Weisman, Rev Weisman officiated at the Centenary celebration in 1965. He was assisted by Chairman Jon Weiner and members of the Chatham community and of Jewish Kent.

Prayers for the congregation, the Royal Family, the State of Israel and the Founders of the Synagogue by members of the Community and Jewish Kent. The Ark was opened by Alfred Magnus, a distant relative of Simon Magnus who built the synagogue.

The service concluded with Adon Olam.
